The Indestructible Beat of Soweto Volume 6 is a brilliant foray into the 80s and 90s birth of electronic music in South Africa, known as kwaito. Featuring brilliantly retro sounds combined with traditional African beat patterns and instrumentation this is a fascinating and catchy album that features such Kwaito legens as Arthur Mafokate and Brenda Fassie. Here as a taster is a couple of videos from youtube that feature on the album. The first, in addition to being terrible quality (sorry), is by Brenda Fassie, one of Africa's brightest stars. This song is wonderful! She tragically died in 2004 aged only 39.
Next up is the huge hit Oyi Oyi by Arthur Mafokate, while british teenagers were dancing to Spice girls and Blur, this guy had the hits in S.Africa. Still going strong today!
